" Fountain " ( or Urinal ) 1917 by R. Mutt ( real name: Marcel Duchamp ). Photographed by Alfred Stieglitz at 291 Gallery, N.Y.C. This 'conceptual art' sculpture was entered into The Society of Independent Artists exhibition of 1917 ( not put on display ). Marcel Duchamp made several artworks of this nature which he called 'Ready-mades'. " Fountain " ( or Urinal ) of course, being the most controversial. * This work was recently voted as 'The most influential artwork of the 20th Century' by over 500 British art professionals.
